I'm pretty sure they have editors/proofreaders but I think (hope) that that instance is an isolated one. I think all of the TV news networks have issues bigger than typoes on their websites.

Evaluate the Crazy

Should Jack Stratton be hospitalized? If anyone saw even 5 minutes of the Charlotte mayoral race debate I am sure one thing became very clear. Jack Stratton is not interested in running for mayor, and he also deranged. There were times when his rants would just come out of nowhere. Someone who has this type of paranoid personality needs to be evaluated by the mental health community. Too many times we as a society ignore these individuals, only to regret it when the go off the deep end and shoot… Continue

The real issue

I think by now we have all heard of the kiosk at Concord Mills that sells the anti-American, anti-Obama, pseudo racist paraphernalia and the fact that he is being “kicked out” this Friday. The supporters of the Free Market Warrior (aka Loren Spivack ) are screaming about freedom of speech and the rights of Americans.
I think one of the more important issues here is, the mall is privately owned. The owners can do lease or not lease to whomever they want. What’s more American than free enterprise.

Flubbed

This morning Scott Graf made a small error in his report. To correct the error he said, “check that”, and then gave the corrected information. Many times a newscaster will use “rather” as a way of correcting an error. In the Navy they use “belay that” as a means to cancel an order. I would like to know from the WFAE on air staff, what is the best way to cover a flub?

Why can’t Fox News hire a proof reader?
The following came from the Fox News web site on Friday.

The Brazilian air force announced Thursday afternoon that a helicopter plucked an airplane cargo pallet from the sea that came the Air France flight, but then said six hours later that it was not from the Airbus.

Came the Air France? I think someone forgot the “from”
I understand that news agencies have to rapidly produce and publish material, but I think a quick read through would he… Continue

Quit butchering my language

The other day Mark Rumsey committed a grammatical faux pas that I have noticed all over the region.
“That will be one dollar and ten cent”.
I hear this all the time. People are not using the plural form when denoting amounts less than one dollar. With the exception of a single penny, it’s pronounced “cents”. This is not a southern thing. While colloquial phrases like “Yawl” are consider acceptable, “cent’” is not.
