I hope that you are doing well today. Not a lot has been going on here in Salisbury.
.
I've been busy working on the new flyer for the November 28, 2009 membership drive to be held at the Comic Monstore from 11 am to 4 pm in Salisbury, NC. I did change the pictures a good bit this time around. I put a photo from Sakura Wars the movie, a cover of the manga from writer Kaoru Tada of Itzura Na Kiss, plus J-pop band Scandal. I hope that this will encourage people to show up at the membership drive. I checked with Woodleaf Lanes and it seems that it'll be easy for me to get free bowling passes for the first ten cosplayers that show up at the membership drive.

Not too long ago I got an email from JR. He's been having a devil of a time these days healing from major sinus surgery.

I talked with Nathan Rider on Sunday. He's been working very hard with the Renaissance Fair. I hope that he will be able to come to the Christmas party in December. I know that he will enjoy seeing the anime series Project Arms and My-Hime again.

By the way, I got an email today from my sister, Lisa. She seems to be doing well. The kids are keeping her busy.

Hello Everyone

I hope that you are doing well today. We had a very hard rain here in Salisbury last night. I was starting to wonder if I would need a boat to get to work tonight at Woodleaf Lanes.

Today, I just added over 14 new pictures in my Facebook account and in the NC Rowan County Anime Group in Yahoo. These pictures were taken at Animazement 2008 in Durham, North Carolina. I had forgotten that I did not scan and post them on the Internet. Like I told JR one time about Animazement 2008, it was going to be a very long time before people forgot about that convention! Even with all the new pictures and the VHS video tape that I own, they do not even cover a tenth of what happened at that show. It makes me wish that I had gone to Animazement 2009.

I saw Tim Will yesterday and gave him the new flyer for the N.C.R.C.A.G. membership drive we are going to have at the Comic Monstore on November 28, 2009 from 11 am to 4 pm. We ended up talking about the anime series and live action movies of Death Note and about the Christmas party.

Some good news: The Rowan Public Library now has Volume three of Tweeny Witches on DVD directed by Yoshiharu Ashino and music by Tamiya Terashima. This is one series that I suggested the libaray pick up. Yesterday, I suggested that Rowan Public Library pick up these books: Japanese Custom & Rituals and History of Japan Since 1945. These books will be released on November 30, 2009. Rowan Public Library will be able to get them sometime next year - if we are lucky. The Rowan Public Library is a bit undermanned at this time. Getting new things processed is a bit slow because of budget cuts.

Thank you for taking time to write me, J.R.V.. I sometimes wonder if anyone sees these flyers at all. This time around, I went back to my artbooks and got out a book that was published in 1954 about designing posters. I was examining the posters that were laid out. Now, I know things have changed between 1957 and 2009, but there is a concept to advertising that says you can always learn from the past. One thing is to keep things very simple and only state the necessary information. For example: the time, the place, and the date. If there is a long time to wait before your event happens, it is ok to do several variations of a theme for your flyer to keep giving it a fresh look.

Today, I have been adding more pictures to my Facebook account and to the NC Rowan County Anime Group from Animazement 2008. Today, I started new album in the NC Rowan County Anime Group called 2003 Animazement with pictures from that time. Sadly, there is no photo of me. I forgot to take a photo of myself at the convention. That's not the first time that's happened. I forgot to take a picture of myself at the NC Rowan County Anime Group's first field trip to Greensboro. Oh well.

Rick, I wish you well with your show. Sadly, the NC Rowan County Anime Group has decided to go on a field trip to Edward Mckays Used Book Store that Saturday at 3 pm. Maybe we'll be able to attend the next show. I want to say thank you for the last Charlotte ComicCon back on September 13, 2009. Digital Manga Publishing has released Megami Deluxe Volume 1 for $19.95. Has anyone checked out Del Rey's Manga of Tsurasa? The story was done by Clamp Studios in Japan. It is available for $10.95 online and in stores. CXM released Emma by Kaour Mori for $9.99. Dark Horse Comics is releasing Clover Omnibus from Clamp Studios for
$19.95.

Zenescope Entertainment has released Grimm Fairy Tales by writer Ralph Tedesco and artist JC Tyler for $39.99. Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White never looked this sexy before! But again, I've been looking at the manga issue of Negima. I am, after all, a very sick puppy at times. Dark Horse released The Art of Usagi Yojimbo from Artist Stan Sakai for 29.95.

Last Thursday, I was telling Richard Pickel about the new CGI that had been added in the classic Star Trek series. The Rowan Public Library has the new updated C.G.I. versions of the classic Star Trek episodes now on DVD to be checked out - for free!

Hello Everyone

I hope that you are doing well on this nice, sunny day. Some unforeseen circumstances (totally beyond my control) have arisen. I am relunctantly cancelling the field trip to Edward McKays Used Book Store in Greensboro this coming Saturday!

I am sorry, but there are some personal things happening in my life that will keep me from being able to go to Greensboro this coming Saturday. Note to JR: I will try to make this up to you! I know that you really wanted to go to Edward Mckays the most out of all the N.C.R.C.A.G. membership.

Outside of my personal life. I've seen episodes of an anime series, Tide-Line Blue, released over here by Bandai Entertainment. Tide-Line Blue is a submarine story done by the same creator of the Gonzo series called Blue Submarine number 6. Note to my sister, Lisa: both Blue Submarine 6 and Tide-Line Blue are very well done stories.

I hope that you are doing well today. I did go to the Friends of The Library book sale over the weekend, They were selling VHS tapes for .25 cents up to .50 cents. I was able to pick up some nice movies.
.
Over the weekend, I saw some episodes of two anime series called White Album and 11 Eyes. The animation was very well done for both series. Sunday, I saw a TV trailer for the anime series called Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail was written by Hiro Mashima. Hiro Mashima is perhaps best remembered as the artist and creator of Rave Master.

The Rowan Public Library just got in these DVDs: Season 2 of Emma: A Victorian Romance and One Piece Third Voyage Season 1 Box set, and also Inu Yasha Season 7 Volumes 2 & 4. I just checked them out last Saturday from the library. Over the weekend, I finished seeing episodes 1-6 of Emma : A Victorian Romance, Season two plus the Box set of One Piece Third Voyage Season 1.

Note to RW: In the Emma anime series, they do show the 1851 Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in England. The artist must have really done their homework in order to get it right. The night drawing of the Crystal Palace really does stand out in my mind. I tip my hat to writer and artist Kaoru Mori for using a real place in England history,

I hope that you are doing well today. Recently this year a very young person asked me how to start up anime club. I told the person that you have to set the time, the date,and the place for the meeting and that you need to do some type of flyer in order to advertise the meeting.
.
This person e mailed back an told me that flyers don't work.In a way I have to admit that this person is right about flyers up to a point. Flyers are easily overlooked at times, get thrown away sometimes and vandalized many times. Vandalized flyers happen alot around here in Salisbury! I've seen my share of NC Rowan County Anime Group flyers have been vandalized many times. But what happens when you first meet a person and that you want to tell them about your club or meeting, unless you have a flyer or maybe a post card ,piece of blank paper. You need some way to exchange information. Now this young generation loves using text telephone. However not everyone has it yet.I find that flyers are the most effective way to use for advertising.

I hope that you are doing well today . I just saw a movie poster for Jonah Hex, staring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox. Release date is sometime in June 2010. I have read many Jonah Hex comic books in my life time. I wonder why they don't do Bat Lash as a movie? I have also seen a movie poster for Iron Man 2 , release date May 7 2010?

Note to James Austin belive it or not they are making A-Team movie . I wonder how soon before we see Airwolf movie?

In Jan of 2010 Tokyopop will be releasing a manga called Happy Cafe in Jan 2010 story done by Kou Matsuzuki . Viz media is going to be releasing the manga called Arata The Legend by Yuu Watase.

I 've talk to Tim Will our Chirstmas & 6th Annivsersary party is set on Dec 5 2001 at 2pm . We will be showing episodes from anime series of My Hime and Project Arms. We are also going to have a trivia contest on Clamp Studio animation . This year marks the 25th anniverary of that animation company.More updates will be coming soon on the party.

Melancholy of Suzumiya. The story was written by Nagru Tanigawa and the
animation was done by Kyoto Studios in Japan. On english-dubbed, featuring the
voice work of Crispin Freeman, Johnny Young Bossch, and Wendee Lee. Rated TVMV.

I hope that you are doing well today. The Rowan Public Library has gotten in two box sets of anime series called Hack//Legend Of The Twilight and Kurogane Communication. Both anime series are well done. However, I would not show Kurogane Communication to my niece, Grace. Maybe in another four years when she turns 14. Hack // Legend Of The Twilight is ok for her age now.

Hello Everyone

I hope that you are doing well on this very nice day. There has been some very sad news here in Salisbury. The Coca Cola plant is closing its doors. My father did work for them for about three months back in the 1960s. I did work for Uniforce Temporary Job Services back in the 1980s and did one day job at the Coca Cola plant. If I remember right, James Austin also worked at Coca Cola plant because of a job from Uniforce Temporary. James did more work days then I did at the Coca Cola plant.
.
I want to take the time out and talk about the future of The NC Rowan County Anime Group next year . I'd like to see us try to start pulling more of our resorces together. There are several really nice events happening in North Carolina in 2010. We need to make our minds up and choose what events will be fun for us as a group. I'd also like to see the group do another display at the library for next year.
.
We've been lucky over the weekend in that I've been busy posting up links so we can watch anime series like Kampfer ,G-On Riders, Gin Iro No Olynsis,
Kanamemo.

I do want to inform you that Rowan Public Library has the box DVD sets of anime series Galaxy Railway and Air TV. I have just checked them out of the Library today.

Hello Everyone

I hope that you are doing well today. It is raining here in Salisbury today. I just returned the DVD Box set of the anime series, Galaxy Railways to Rowan Public Library. I did enjoy the series. However, this anime series did have some loose ends that were left untied. Maybe they were thinking about doing another series someday? Who knows?
.
For some time now, I've wanted to talk a little bit more about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I really don't remember all that well how I first learned about that anime series. My earliest memory is seeing the ending song (dance theme) on Youtube. However, back at Animazement 2008, I was lucky enough to see a group of young people doing a spontaneous performance of the ending of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and I was able to videorecord part of it in the hallway at the time.

There's one quote that does stand out in my mind from Episode 1 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya:

"Kyon always goes after the strange ones. The weirder, the better."
